Spy Shots: Upcoming Toyota Supra finally surfaces in camo

The return of the Toyota Supra is one of the most highly anticipated sports car revivals of the 21st century.

Corvette with an average engine. Ferrari “entry level.” These are the white whales of the automotive industry, which are constantly teased, but never delivered. And the new Toyota Supra has long been one of them. But it will not be much longer.

The sequel to the Mk IV Supra, which lasted from 1993 to 2002, was rumored almost immediately after the death of the previous model, but a recent partnership with BMW gave some expectation of validity. Now we see how these transactions are carried out. These are truly spy shots of the upcoming Toyota Supra, which will become the serial cousin of the upcoming BMW Z5.

Supra looks like a reinforced 86, especially in the greenhouse and at the back, while the nose has clearly received FT-1 treatment. This is an evolution of the design language, which began with a series of concepts from the Japanese automaker FT for nearly ten years.

Unlike the relationship between the 86 and BRZ Subaru, or the Mazda MX-5 and Fiat 124, the differences between Toyota and BMW are supposed to be much more pronounced. The platform was developed jointly by the two companies, although it seems that the similarities end there. The 400-horsepower Lexus twin-turbocharged V6 was designed for the Supra, while the Z5 will accordingly receive its own BMW four-cylinder and six-cylinder turbo mills.
